FIGURE 1 (A) Gestational sac prominence within the uterine cavity (6 weeks). (B) Extracelomic space from a 6-week embryonic partial mole (confirmed on histology). Karyotype: 47,XY,+18. The vesicular appearance of the hydropic chorionic villi, surrounded by a hyperemic tissue, is seen through the transparent chorionic membrane. The embryo within the amniotic cavity, the yolk stalk with an abnormal vesicular degeneration, and a small portion of the transparent yolk sac are viewed in perspective. (C) Normal appearance of chorionic villi within the chorion frondosum (8 weeks). Karyotype: 46,XY. (D) Regular chorionic villi alternating with others of edematous appearance (7 weeks). Karyotypes: 46,XX (embryo) and 46,XX,del (10p) (chorion). Ferro. Hysteroembryoscopic biopsies. Fertil Steril 2003. Fertility and Sterility 2003 80, 1260-1264DOI: (10.1016/S0015-0282(03)02195-2)
