Act V. scene i Setting: A street in Mantua Conflict: Death comes too early Characters: Romeo had a bad dream that Juliet found him dead (oh, no!) hopes for news from Verona plans to return to Verona to kill himself and lie with Juliet bribes the apothecary to get the poison Balthasar delivers the news of Juliet’s “death” Apothecary tries not to sell the illegal drug gives in to his poverty

Act V scene ii Setting: Friar Lawrence’s cell Conflict: Missed Messages Characters: Friar John tells Friar Lawrence of the delay (due to quarantine) Friar Lawrence assumes Friar John sent word to Romeo sends Friar John to get him a crowbar decides he’ll have to save Juliet and bring her to his cell
