Act V scene ii Setting: Friar Lawrence’s cell Conflict: Missed Messages Characters: Friar John tells Friar Lawrence of the delay (due to quarantine) Friar Lawrence assumes Friar John sent word to Romeo sends Friar John to get him a crowbar decides he’ll have to save Juliet and bring her to his cell
Act V scene iii Setting: Churchyard near Capulet family tomb Conflict: Death once more… Events (in order) Paris comes to leave flowers on Juliet’s grave and voice his unending love Romeo arrives and plans to break into the tomb and get a ring from her finger Gives Balthasar a letter for his father Warns Balthasar not to interfere with his actions Balthasar sits beneath a tree and waits Paris stops Romeo from entering the tomb They fight; Paris dies (wants to be placed by Juliet) Romeo says farewell to Juliet and takes the poison….
