TOPIC SENTENCE: Tell the reader what your paragraph is trying to explain or prove. You usually rephrase the prompt. Ex: The success of the KIPP Academy is based solely on the extended day and year.
Explanation : Provide an Explanation to introduce a piece of evidence you got from the text. Gladwell indicates students gladly give up more of their free time so they may be more successful in school and perhaps escape a life of poverty.
3. Quotation: Choose a piece of text that further supports your initial Explanation: “quotation here….” (page number). Example: Students will go in on Saturdays and do homework until eleven at night. In return, KIPP promised it will take kids who are stuck in poverty and give them a chance to get out (14).
4. Analyze: Explain to the reader the importance of the quotation and what it specifically means. Don’t say “this quotation shows” or similar phrases.
