Shading From Light to Dark
Presentation transcript:

BELLRINGER: Get sketchbook. Take out a wooden No BELLRINGER: Get sketchbook. Take out a wooden No. 2 pencil and ink pen(not sharpie). Create 2 7 step value scales. What is the difference between creating value using ink and creating value using pencil? How can you create different values if you are using only one pencil? Explain.

To create different values in pencil, apply varying degrees of pressure. Proper shading technique: 1.Do not create lines, create a smooth velvet texture, create an even tone within a single space, completely fill the space 2. Shading must be in a uniform direction, shading must follow the direction of the shape***never smudge shading***

Value practice “without” the scale Go to a clean sheet of sketchbook paper Using your ruler, divide your paper into 8 even sections Create all 11 values of the value scale by using the pressure of your pencil to go from light to dark or dark to light. NO SMUDGING!!!
