WHY CORNELL NOTES? Research has proven it works better then regular notes. University of Cornell law professor. Makes you think about and review your notes multiple times. By revisiting your notes multiple times, the information moves from short term memory to long term memory. (from memorizing to learning)

Scientific Inquiry Is the process scientist use to find the answers to questions about the real world. 7 steps, but it is circular/continuous.

The Steps 1) Make an observation and ask a question Inference: is an explanation of an observation based upon prior knowledge. Observation-vs-inference

THE STEPS 2) Hypothesis: a possible explanation of an observation that can be tested. If then statement 3) Prediction.

THE STEPS 4) Experiment: an investigation to test the hypothesis. The results must prove or disprove the hypothesis

THE STEPS 5) Analyze the results Place data in charts or graphs to make comparisons and recognize patterns. Qualitative and Quantitative data

The steps 6) Draw conclusion Was the hypothesis supported or refuted by the results of the experiment. My hypothesis that __(restate hypothesis)______ was supported/refuted, because the results showed ____(explain your results)__________.

The STEPS 7) Communicate results: Lectures, reports, exchanges with other scientist.

NOW what??? Answers to one question, will lead to new observations and more questions. This is how we get new technology, materials, and explanations of the world we live in.
