What is Herbal Medicine? Traditionally used by all societies and cultures, herbs and plants were our first medicine. The therapeutic activity of a plant is due to its complex chemical nature with different parts of the plant providing a variety of therapeutic effects. Herbal medicine is being increasingly validated as modern science seeks to confirm their safety and efficacy in clinical trials. Using plants as medicine provides significant advantages for treating many conditions.

Is Herbal Medicine safe? Is it effective? Herbal medicine is safe and effective when used as prescribed by a fully qualified Medical Herbalist. A Medical Herbalist will take a full case history and provide individually tailored herbal remedies. Registered Medical Herbalists are trained to understand: Which herbs can be safely used for which condition How herbs may interact with other medications Which herbs may be contraindicated in certain medical conditions

What can Herbal Medicine treat? A Registered Medical Herbalist Is trained in Western herbal medicine and medical science. Acknowledges the body's innate healing ability. Seeks to treat the underlying cause of a health problem. Aims to prevent illness and restore health. Most acute and chronic problems can benefit from herbal treatment. Herbal medicine is very effective for disorders of the nervous system, digestive system, immune system, and for hormonal complaints. Members know when a condition is best seen by another health professional and will refer when appropriate
