Presentation transcript:

When God answers prayer…

Sometimes God says “No”. Our request is not in God’s will or plan for us or others. And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as Thou wilt.” (Matthew 26:39)

In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety. (Hebrews 5:7)

Sometimes God says, “Slow” Our request is not God’s will at this particular time. The sisters therefore sent to Him, saying, “Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick.” (John 11:3) Therefore, when Mary came where Jesus was, she saw Him, and fell at His feet, saying to Him, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.” (John 11:32)

Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart, (Luke 18:1)

Sometimes God says, “Grow” Our motives are wrong. You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures. (James 4:3)

Sometimes God says, “Go” Our request, timing, and spiritual condition are okay…Yes! So Ahab went up to eat and drink. But Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he crouched down on the earth, and put his face between his knees. (1 Kings 18:42) “The effective fervent prayer of the righteous can accomplish much” (Jas. 5:17).

Almost every service we pray and I hope every day you pray, asking God to bless you and to bless others. I hope that His answers will not confuse and confound us, but instead instruct and encourage us to “pray without ceasing”. Even when the answers to prayer disappoint, don’t give up on God!
