The preposition à À can mean “to”, or “at.” Example: aller à la piscine = to go to the pool Use à when talking about going to places or with playing sports. Je joue au base-ball. Aller au cinéma Nous jouons aux échecs

The Preposition à À, when used with definite articles le or les must make the following contractions À + le = au : J’aime aller au café. À + les = aux : Je joue aux échecs. There is no contraction when à is used with the definite articles la or l’ À + la = à la : J’aime aller à la piscine. À + l’ = à l’ : J’étudie le français à l’école

The Preposition à Here are some examples of à becoming a contraction J’aime aller au cinéma. Au is à + le J’aime jouer aux échecs. aux is à + les J’aime aller à la piscine Never put à and le next to each other. You must change à and le to au!
