Gathering Blue Discussion Questions By: Owen Brady, Julianne Esposito, Giovanni Lunetta, and Sam Nafie

Why do you think the people in the Fen are so neglected? People in the Fen are neglected because they are lower classed citizens in the community. The people in the Fen do not have food and water. This may be why Matt constantly has to ask Kira to supply him with food and water from the Council Edifice. Matt also does not wash himself, again because he does not have water in the Fen. He does not wish to bathe because they are not his customs in the Fen. In Kira’s community although they don’t have money they have food to keep them from starvation and water to keep them from thirst. Giovanni

Why are Kira and Thomas the carver and th reader of the future? (Answer is in red) A. They are very good at their job and they will keep their job. B. They both have special gifts that have powers. C.They are said to have special knowledges. D. Because they are smart. By: Owen Brady

First, choose the most important events, then list the events in chronological order. Kira and Thomas went to the Gathering Kira shows Jamison the work on the robe Kira and Thomas visit Jo Kira goes to the Fen with Thomas They watched the singer sing with the robe on Matt found blue and gave it to Kira Matt ran away with the food Julianne Esposito

1.c 3.a Kira and Thomas go to the Gathering to watch the singer perform. Their hard work payed off working on the robe and staff. Kira and Thomas visit Jo often to make sure she is ok. Now that they know about her, they want to make sure nothing happens to her. Matt found blue and gave it to Kira. Matt risked his life trying to gather the blue. Kira is glad to finally have blue. 2.d Kira and Thomas go to the Fen to find Matt. They went to his cott and asked his mom where he went. 4.f

What does the Worship Object symbolize within the community? The Worship Object is much like the Christian cross. Kira describes the object as, “the little crossed construction of wood,” (198). Within the community, the Worship Object symbolizes the fact that their community has been through a lot and still prevailed. This is a futuristic community that perceives the world as arising from the ashes many times, each time becoming stronger and larger. The threading in the robe shows cities after cities burning down, but after one smaller city had gone up in flames, a bigger one takes its place, until it is, eventually, burned down as well. The Worship Object has still been able to stand, despite what has happened in the world’s past. The people in the community look to the Worship Object because it has lasted “forever” and makes them have hope that they will live to the future as long as the object is there. Sam Nafie
