Agenda Review of past discussion Work moving forward What’s next How you can help

8/15/17 Board meeting

A Quick Look at our Activities Most people say – EHRs and KHIN. They are a big part, but they are only TOOLS in PH Informatics.

LHD Communication & Informatics Understanding Purpose: To increase the knowledge of informatics systems in the state and allow LHDs to better apply various systems to their work and activities Informatics Discussions @ board meeting, district meetings, online forum, etc. Development of a System Catalog; what systems are in use, why and where*** Informatics for KS LHDs infographic*** (High Impact – Low Effort )

KALHD Unified Voice Purpose: To increase awareness of the sub- committee as a resource for LHDs, KDHE, and other partners to help define the role of Public Health Informatics. To ensure LHDs are at the table for all future statewide informatics decisions and projects. Continually inform KDHE and others about using this sub-committee as a resource Discuss issues as a group, reach consensus and make recommendations to the KALHD board for official stances High Impact – Med Effort

Data Use Purpose: To increase the appropriate use of data for decision making. To help LHDs gain the ability to “make the case” for public health in their local communities. Convene a workgroup to develop a guide for baseline Informatics/Epi expectations for LHDs Create a recorded webinar training based on these baseline expectations*** Continue to discuss data needs at all opportunities. A running list will be kept High Impact – Med Effort

Data Access Purpose: To help LHDs create capabilities for data utilization Identify data access pain points for LHDs and other partners, document and share solutions*** Discuss and explore workforce capacity & informatics related responsibility at the state/region/local level Create discussion on data sharing policies and procedures between KDHE, LHDs, and other public health and healthcare (HIPAA & other restrictions) Look for opportunities to connect to data systems and share information about usefulness (KHIN, ESSENSE, EMS data sources, etc.) High Impact – High Effort

State Interoperability Purpose: To provide direction and support for the mapping of alternatives for streamlined state system interoperability Identify the first steps towards the ask of KDHE data request consolidation; to help relieve the burden of multiple data entries. Create a comprehensive list of all data elements exchanged between LHDs & KDHE/Federal*** Connect partners for system changes; i.e. breastfeeding information in WebIZ High Impact – High Effort

Workforce Development Purpose: To provide a roadmap & expectation for all LHDs to raise their capabilities as it relates to Informatics. All materials should be structured in a way that aligns with FPHS. Creation of a WD Plan that includes skill focused training*** Tier 1: Informatics/Epi 101 - basics Tier 2: Informatics/Epi 201 - advanced Creation of additional “Informatics Mentors” for New Director Mentor Program*** New director Orientation Manual – create Informatics Section*** Primary Systems (WebIZ, Catalyst, KWIC, DAISEY, Etc) Secondary Systems (KHM, ESSENCE, Etc) Med Impact – Med Effort

Moving Forward

What you can do to help: Keep the KALHD Subcommittee top of mind Look tools & communications over the next year Challenge the Status Quo Share information when the opportunity presents itself Know you’re not alone!
