Welcome 8th Grade Trip Parent Meeting

When & Where MLK Jr. Memorial We will leave Friday evening (about 6:30 p.m.) on February 14, 2020 and will return early in the early morning on Tuesday, February 18, 2020. We did a survey for the kids to see if they would want to be gone during Halloween. The majority said no, so we are back to February for a few years. We will visit many memorials, the National Archives, Smithsonian Institution, and more. MLK Jr. Memorial

World Strides WWII Memorial An industry leader and premier provider of student educational travel. World Strides is the largest student touring company in the nation with 50 years of experience. Smith has had a relationship with them for over 45 years. Safety is our top concern. Focus on Education: Discovery Journals and specially trained Course Leaders WWII Memorial

Key Features Pentagon 9/11 Memorial Teacher Chaperones- many who have done this trip for 10+ years. We travel by motor coach. Thank goodness not on a school bus!  Course leaders who guide us through the city. They engage the kids in activities and share lots of facts. We pick them up each day. Tour Central- 24-hour service for support if needed. Name Tags- World Strides 1-800 number on the back for extra security. World Strides On-site coordinators at the hotel to assist. Night chaperones- are on the floor at bedtime- no one goes in or leaves. They have our number in case of an emergency. Doctors on Call service is available through George Washington Department of Medicine.

Possible Sites War Memorials: WWII, Iwo Jima, Vietnam and Korean. Also, Air Force and Pentagon 9/11 Memorials: MLK King Jr., Jefferson, Lincoln, and FDR National Zoo and National Cathedral Arlington National Cemetery Mount Vernon Capitol Hill White House (picture stop) Smithsonian Museums National Archives Newseum ETC…

Other Tidbits Bus ride Hotel 2 nights we sleep on the bus Kids can bring snacks Hotel 2 nights at a Holiday Inn (Hotel can change) Pool available one night Dance and DJ another night Souvenir shopping- for reasonably priced items. We are on the go from 7AM- 8 PM each day. There is so much to see. We encourage eating well and getting rest when they can!

Meals Places vary year to year be we take great pride in offering meals that are fueling and tasty. Kids are encouraged to bring snacks and water for the bus ride. We try to find places that are kid-friendly and can also accommodate large groups. Some places we have done in the past for dinner: Pizzeria Uno, Chevy (Tex Mex), Italian restaurants, Champps, etc. Some places we have done in the past for lunch: Food court at Union Station or Regan International Trade Center, Newseum pre-order, Roy Rogers. Breakfast will be a buffet at the hotel in a banquet room.

Program Price and Inclusions Price is all-inclusive (entry fees to museums, hotel accommodations, meals) all for $839.00 for early bird pricing! This is a savings of $50 price will increase after March 21st. Students will want extra spending money for snacks and buying memorabilia we suggest $50-$100. This is a personal preference Full Refund Program- option to enroll. Standard Cancellation Policy- please read if you do not take up the full refund program.
