Do Now: Answer one or both questions, turn and talk with your tablemates. Captains will share with the class. 2.) Mini-Lesson: Together we will watch the 1996 adaptation of Romeo and Juliet and compare it to Shakespeare’s text. Looking at both will help us better understand the play. 3.) Reflection: How does watching a modern interpretation with extravagant parties, modern cars, guns, and drugs affect your understanding of a play written hundreds of years ago? Does it still retain its original themes and feelings? HOMEWORK: DUE ON TUESDAY - FIRST ENTRY OF THE CHARACTER JOURNALS/DIARIES You must write from the perspective of one of the main characters (Romeo, Juliet, Tybalt, Lord Capulet/Montague, Lady Capulet/Montague, Paris, Benvolio, Mercutio, or the Nurse).
