CELL DIVISION Mitosis and Meiosis ASEXUAL SEXUAL (EUKARYOTES ONLY)
Mitosis vs. Meiosis. What is the difference Mitosis is asexual reproduction. Does not produce a new organism. Mitosis is asexual reproduction. Does not.

What are we learning today?
Biology Meiosis Notes 01/04/2012. Goals for the day 1.Be able to describe the differences between mitosis & meiosis 2.Be able to describe what a homologous.
06/06/2016Mitosis L.O: To understand mitosis and describe where it occurs Starter: How old are you? How old are you really?
BASIC GENETIC CONCEPTS
Cell division in sexual reproduction
Science Content Standards
Cell Division Notes Biology.
Meiosis .Division of gametes (sex cells) 4 daughter cells produced Each daughter cell has half the chromosomes of the parent 2 sets of cell division.
Cell division – process by which cells produce new cells
Purpose of the Cell Cycle

What’s the difference in these two forms of reproduction?
Biology Domain 3 Genetics.
Cell Reproduction.
Sexual reproduction is characterized by processes that pass a unique combination of genetic material to offspring, resulting in increased genetic diversity.
Mitosis The parent cell splits to produce two IDENTICAL daughter cells… each with the same number of chromosomes as the parent (46 chromosomes in humans)
CELL DIVISION Mitosis and Meiosis ASEXUAL SEXUAL (EUKARYOTES ONLY)
What’s the difference in these two forms of reproduction?
Genetic Processes Unit 2.
Reproduction.
Genetics in Agriculture
Concept: Compare the Process of Mitosis and Meiosis
Mitosis & Meiosis What’s the difference?.
The student is expected to: 6A identify components of DNA, and describe how information for specifying the traits of an organism is carried in the DNA.
Mitosis: Cell Division
Sexual reproduction is characterized by processes that pass a unique combination of genetic material to offspring, resulting in increased genetic diversity.

Characteristics of Life
IHNERITANCE OF QUANTITATIVE FEATURES
You have body cells and gametes.
Fertilization The process of haploid gametes joining together to form a diploid cell with 2n chromosomes. n chromosomes come from the male parent and n.
Genes, Alleles, and meiosis
For a species to survive, it must REPRODUCE!
Cells We all started life as one cell!

REPRODUCTION PRIMA 2014 Výukový materiál GE 02 - 36 Tvůrce: Mgr. Šárka Vopěnková Tvůrce anglické verze: ThMgr. Ing. Jiří Foller Projekt: S anglickým jazykem do dalších předmětů Registrační číslo: CZ.1.07/1.1.36/03.0005 Tento projekt je spolufinancován ESF a SR ČR PRIMA 2014

REPRODUCTION sex cells = gametes they differ from other cells they content only the half number of cell parts by the fusion of two „ half“ gametes > a new full-fledged cell arises = zygote a new individual grows from the zygote

REPRODUCTION if gametes contained the same number of organelles as other cells > a double zygote would be formed > an organism with double cells therefore gametes are created by a special division, called reduction division

REPRODUCTION important for sexual reproduction: in the nucleus of the zygote there occurs a new combination the result is a unicellular base of an organism similar to parents but also with new qualities

REPRODUCTION heredity = genetics the science dealing with heredity and variability of living systems the founder of genetics - J.G. Mendel carriers of genetic information are nucleic acids

REPRODUCTION nucleic acids: DNA it has an important quality: it can copy itself = replicate it is located in the chromosome chromosome is in eukaryotic cell in the nucleus

REPRODUCTION

REPRODUCTION karyotype is a set of all chromosomes in the nucleus
