Tom, Elijah, matt and Mace Chapter 5 Tom, Elijah, matt and Mace

Plot During the summer time, Dill arrives and they all go pass Ms. Maudie's house. Scout thinks to herself “Last summer, Dill asked me to marry him, and forgot about me the next day.” This meaning that Dill has a quiet forgetful character, but has romance inside of him. This may have been represented through what he thinks and does throughout the novel. This could affect future events because of how Dill could forget important facts/information that could be needed to be passed on to someone else ETC. The children pass Ms. Maudies house, and she tells them about the similarities of Jack Finch and Mr. Radley. Also about God, and people. “S-ss-ss. He gets more like Jack Finch every day” and, “Ms. Maudie had known Jack Finch, Atticus’s brother, since they were children” Pg.48 This is important because we now know that Ms. Maudie knows about Jack Finch, and Mr. Radley. This is critical information, because of how we can now compare the similarities between Jack, and Mr. Radley. As Jem and Dill are in deep conversation in the yard, Scout walks in and gets caught in with their plan. This which is attempting to give a letter to Mr. Radley. While attempting to pass over the note, they get caught by Atticus and he tells them. “What Mr. Radley did was his own business.”

Setting Summer Time – Dill arrives with a friendly attitude towards Jem, but to Scout annoyance. During these times Twilights are long and peaceful Set in Ms. Maudies house/yard Atticus’ yard The Radley's place

Characters Mr. Radley – Once was a Baptist who was really nice and polite as a child, RECORED FROM MS. MAUDIE Dr. Buford – Profession is medicine Jack Finch – Ancestor of Atticus/Scout. Stephane Crawford – “Once she woke up in the middle of the night and found him looking through the window at her.” pg. 50 Ms. Maudie – Widow who is nice, and friendly. She loves her Garden, but hates her house. Would always make a cake and yell out to Jem and Scout.

Themes/Ideas At the beginning of the chapter, Dill asks Scout to marry him pg. 46 A couple pages over, the Theme changes into learning and understanding Close to the end, It’s about being Frighten/bribed because of the Radley place, and Jem and Dill bribing Scout. But after being educated more about Mr. Radley by Atticus

Relationships Between Characters “Miss. Maudie benevolence extended to Jem and Dill.” “” This represents that Ms. Maudie is nice, kind and respectful towards the children (Jem, Scout and Dill) This is important, because of how we know their relationship, and how they act. Ms. Maudie makes a cake for Jem and scout, and calls for them to eat it. This shows that Ms. Maudie is compassionate and kind towards the children. Miss Maudie had known Uncle Jack Finch, Atticus ‘s brother , since they were children. Every Christmas Uncle Jack yelled across the street to Miss Maudie to marry him. This meaning that even though Jack like’s Ms. Maudie, she doesn’t feel the same way. Also that Uncle Jack has some sort of compassion towards Miss Maudie. Miss Stephanie, Jem, and scout had considerable faith in Miss Maudie in whatever they did Scout found Dill and Jem in the back yard in deep conversation, when scout joined them, as usual hey said go away.
