3-Year NPHC/MGC Benchmark Plan Forward, Together 3-Year NPHC/MGC Benchmark Plan

Why We Are Here. Since MGC was founded, all of our culturally based orgs and historically-black orgs have lived under the same council. FSL is designed with the intent of self-governance with the ideals that each organization is governed by similar based orgs. NPC orgs are governed by PC, NIC to the IFC. So why do our culturally-based and historically black not have the same opportunity to be governed by like organizations? In 2018, we began the discussion surrounding the question of “what would it take to create a NPHC and MGC as two seperate councils?” The creation of MGC was to provide one home to our minority Greek organizations. For too long, the perception was that both populations were the same. When in reality, aside from being greek organizations that serve minority populations, the similarities stop there. As FSL professionals, our responsibility is to provide spaces for ALL of our organizations to grow to their fullest potential, without barriers that will hold them back.

Research Peer Institutions: New Mexico State: 1 MGC organization Wright State University: NPHC Council (6/9, no MGC) University of Nevada Reno: 1 combined Council (3 NPHC, 10 MGC) University of North Dakota: None Aspirational Institutions: Auburn University: MGC (2 chapters) & NPHC (all 9 chapter) Oklahoma State University: MGC (5 chapters) & NPHC (5 chapters) University of Akron: NPHC (5 chapters) Clemson University: NPHC (8 chapters) & MGC (4 chapters) In the summer of 2018, FSL began establishing a benchmark that will guide us to the creation of a NPHC and MGC. We conducted research to find universities with a similar structure that we currently have. We looked into our aspirational institutions through WSU and our peer-institutions through WSU. We also looked outside of those institutions and spoke with fellow professionals in the field at a variety of campuses. Through this research, we identified that our university was a strong outlier with our current structure. We found very few campuses that had a combined council, and those campuses were much smaller in size with much fewer organizations than what we have.

MGC Growth 2013: Sigma Psi Zeta 2015: Kappa Delta Chi 2017: Kappa Alpha Psi 2018: Omega Psi Phi 2018: Lambda Pi Upsilon 2019: Muslim Sorority Expansion 2019: Potential return of Phi Beta Sigma and Sigma Gamma Rho 2020: Progressive Sorority We are continually evaluating areas of growth within the council.

By December 2019, all current active NPHC chapters will have increased the total size of the community by 20%. By December 2019, Phi Beta Sigma and Sigma Gamma Rho will (potentially) return to campus. All active and current NPHC chapters will be at the university required minimum of 5 members. NPHC will maintain all current, active chapters. MGC By August 2019, all current active culturally- based chapters will select one representative to represent the chapter on the Greek Alumni Advisory Board. NPHC shall maintain all active chapters. MGC By December 2020, all current active MGC Chapters will have increased the total membership of the community by 30% It should be noted that after the evaluation from the previous year, this number may change. FSL staff will conduct expansion depending on interest (LGBTQ+, etc). All active and current MGC chapters will have the University require five (5) member minimum, while new chapters have three (3) semesters to obtain the minimum requirement. Maintain all culturally-based chapters.
