PURPOSES OF MAPS To find locations on the earth’s surface To determine direction or distance To understand information about places

Types of Maps Physical Focuses on mountains, rivers, oceans etc. Purpose-Identify locations of land masses & waterways

Thematic Maps Purpose- Show a specific theme or topic within a certain place or region. Ex: Population Density in the U.S.
