Building a Geodatabase Exercise 2: Importing data into your geodatabase Suzanne Montes GEOG 482

In ArcCatalog, right click the Water feature dataset in the Montgomery geodatabase. A menu will popup, select Import, then choose Feature Class (multiple) Use the Thumbnails view. It is cool to see the different feature class as images.

Once the Feature Class to Geodatabase (multiple) text box comes up, click the browse button, search for the arc feature class that is in the lateral coverage and click add. Click ok to close and run the Feature Class to Geodatabase (multiple) tool. You can also drag and drop datasets from ArcCatalog to the text box.

On the lower right corner of the ArcCatalog, you will see a progress bar showing that the Feature Class to Geodatabase (multiple) tool is running. By the clicking the results pane, the following information is shown.

Now the laterals_arc feature class is added to the Water feature dataset.

While in the ArcCatalog tree, I selected the laterals_arc feature class and pressed the F2 key. The F2 key allows you to rename the feature class. I tried to rename laterals_arc to Laterals and I received the error below.

Since I couldn’t rename the feature class, I searched around, checked properties and finally found a solution to my problem. I’m not sure if it was the correct way but it worked and allowed me to rename the file. The tool I used was the Simple Data Loader. Simple Data Loader…It worked!!

Since I couldn’t rename the feature class, I searched around, checked properties and finally found a solution to my problem. I’m not sure if it was the correct way but it worked and allowed me to rename the file. The tool I used was the Simple Data Loader.

After right clicking the lateral feature class in the Water feature dataset, I did the following: Clicked the Fields Tab. Clicked the General Tab. Changed the alias for the OBJECTID Field to Feature Identifier. . Renamed the alias to Water Laterals.

I repeated the process and changed the aliases to the following fields: Shape Geometry field DEPTH_BURI Depth buried RECORDED_L Recorded length FACILITY_I Facility identifier DATE_INSTA Installation date TYPECODE Subtype code

After right clicking the Montgomery Geodatabase, I chose import from the pull down menu. I then selected Table (single). I dragged and dropped the owners.dat info table from the ArcCatalog. I then typed Owners for the output table. Selecting the table and using the Preview tab will show you what the table consists of.

I right clicked the table and selected Properties I right clicked the table and selected Properties. I selected the General tab and changed the alias to Parcel Owners.

I selected the Fields tab and changed the alias to following: OBJECTID Object identifier OWNER_NAME Owner name OWNER_PERCENT Percentage ownership DEED_DATE Date of deed

After completing this assignment, I found that the Results Pane was a great help in helping me find out what I did right, wrong, it shows message and all sorts of information. The Results Pane!!!
