Objectives Design and Implement a shoe box home powered by a single power source Series Circuit w/ 2 lights Parallel Circuit w/ 3 lights 1 Exterior light All circuits must function from their own light switch. HAVE FUN!

Part 1: Building Design Design your building with any school appropriate theme that meets the following criteria: Your building must have 2 rooms. A definitive wall must separate them with a doorway or passage connecting them. Your home must be the size of a shoe box or an equivalent sized cardboard box. A Series Circuit Room: 2 lights in series with a switch A Parallel Circuit Room: 3 lights in parallel with a switch A single outside light with a switch

Part 1: Building Design Cont. TODAY: Submit your teams building plan by the time provided. All teams must have their design approved by me today. One per group. You must submit one circuit diagram of your building (all rooms) All components must be labeled using accurate symbols It must be neat! (use rulers please) 5 Point Summative

Part 2: Building Inspection Supplies provided for you: Supplies you need to bring: Wire Scotch Tape 6 brads 3 Paper Clips White & Colored Paper Wire Cutters 6 Diodes Shoe Box Design Materials 3 C or D Batteries Glue (if desired) Electrical Tape (if desired)  Recommended You must have these items NEXT CLASS

Part 2 Grading 5 Points – All lights inside function properly without battery being moved or any wiring changed. 5 Points – There is a switch in each room (exterior light should have switch outside) 5 Points – One room has two lights properly wired in series 5 Points – One room has three lights properly wired in parallel 5 Points – Exterior light functions independently of interior lights 5 Points – Wiring matches Building Design from Part 1 30 Total Summative Points

Part 3: Design Evaluation Homes must be decorated and feature appropriate interiors. Walls/floors need to be covered (cardboard is not a wall or floor color) Students can use paper or markers Each room should include realistic items: Bed in the bedroom, furniture in living room, etc. You are welcome to use legos, doll house toys, etc. to fill your home. Grading: 5 Points for Decor – walls/floors decorated 5 Points for Furniture/Structure – appropriate interior furnishings in each room
