Welcome to our Induction Evening! Aims of the Evening: Meet the staff team and other key people within school Gain an understanding of the Transition arrangements in preparing for September Familiarise yourself with the physical environment/classroom Learn about the routines for your child Network with other Parents and Carers Discover what life is like at Grappenhall Heys Primary School and how you can be involved

Date Activity Tuesday 20th June 2017 Transition open evening for parents Tuesday 27th June 2017 Groups of children to attend for the afternoon with their parents. Wednesday 28th June 2017 Thursday 29th June 2017 Wednesday 5th July 2017 All children invited for a morning session in school to meet their teacher and new classmates. Parents will be invited to stay in school during this session to have refreshments in the hall.

NOW outdoors is a right in its own environment. What this means is what is suitable outside? Opportunity for large scale activities. It should be accessed when children choose. Characteristics of Learning These underpin the learning and development across all the areas. Play and Exploring – their engagement in activities (finding out and exploring & playing with what they know) Active Learning – their motivation (do they keep trying, concentrating?) Creating and Thinking Critically – having their own ideas, making links, and choosing the way to do things.

The Key Person Every child’s key person is the class teacher Teaching assistants are the children’s associate key person It is their job to support your child in transition Meet the individual needs of the child Support their independence Be the link between home and school, building a relationship with their parents

A Typical Day in Nursery 8.45 – 8.55: Bring child into classroom, kiss and cuddle and help with cloakroom. 9.00: Register, timetable, sharing news 9.10 – 9.30: Phonics 9.30 – 11.00: (As a unit) Independent activities and Focused activity 11.05 -11.30: Carpet gathering 11.40: Get ready for going home. 11:45: Home time. Parents to wait on the playground and children to be called and sent out to person waiting. Please inform us each time your child is going home with someone else.

A typical day in Reception 8.45 – 8.55: Kiss and a cuddle goodbye on playground and come into school. 9.00: Register 9.10 – 9.30: Phonics 9.30 – 11.00: (As a unit) Independent activity, Focused activity. 11.05 -11.25: Carpet gathering 11.45: Mrs Green comes to class to take children to lunch. 11.45 – 12.45: Lunch time (Mrs Green and Play leaders) 12.45 – 1.15: Register, Carpet gathering 1.15 – 2.45: (As a unit) Independent activity, Focused activity, Guided reading etc. 2.45 -3.15: Tidy up time, story, singing, share time, get ready for going home. 3.15: Home time. Parents to wait on the playground and children to be called and sent out to person waiting. Please inform us each time your child is going home with someone else

Early Years Learning Journal The profile is the assessment that is carried out at the end of the Reception class year The profile consists 17 Early learning goals taken from the prime and specific areas of learning The Reception teacher then makes a judgement against everyone of these goals These judgements are classed as emerging, expected and exceeded During the year your child will be tracked in their development against 30-50 months and 40-60 months age phases appropriate to where they are performing Evidence will be collected in various ways. Recorded evidence will be kept on your child’s online Learning Journal and written work in Maths, English and Topic books.

What will be happening this year? Learning Experiences will include: Learn with your child sessions Nativity Parent and child voice questionnaire Walks in our community for a range of experiences Topics that have come from the children’s interest Class pet Sports day Parents evening for EYFS School trips Class visitors

How Can You Help… Encourage your child to be independent (eating, dressing, activities, coming into school) Parents evening Drop in or make an appointment Read each day (when your child gets a reading book) Practise letter sounds, names Practise key words Share books Practise Maths booklets Have share time (what have you both done today?) Use wow tickets to share fantastic home learning experiences, this will help inform end of year judgements.

Handy Tips… Put Names on EVERYTHING including PE Kits and shoes. Snack money due at the beginning of each half term Water bottles (labelled) are encouraged and should only contain water. ALWAYS have a coat whatever the weather and a sunhat when sunny! It would be handy if you could provide some wellies that could be kept in school so whatever the weather we can access outdoor learning opportunities. It is a good idea to put a small key-ring/coloured ribbon on your child’s school coat, bag, P.E. bag. This helps the child to easily recognise their own items quickly as they can all look the same hanging up!! Please keep reading books, key word booklet and maths booklet in their folder in their book bag everyday.
