CHAPTER 1 Information Technology, The Internet, And You. By Ryan McDonald

Information Systems (five parts): People Procedures Software Hardware Data

People: people are the most important part of any information system People: people are the most important part of any information system. They create documents and programs that we look at.

Procedures: the rules and guidelines that must be followed when using software, hardware, and data.

Software: a program consists of the step-by-step instructions that tell the computer how to do its works. There are 2 types of software. System Software- enables the application software to interact with the computer hardware.

Application Software- programs that are designed for general purpose and special purpose application. The two most well-known are Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator.

Hardware: the equipment that is used to create information Hardware: the equipment that is used to create information. It includes, the keyboard, mouse, and monitor, system unit, and other devices.

Data: the unprocessed facts including text, numbers, and sounds.

The Internet The Internet is the largest network in the world. It connects you to millions of people and organizations around the world.

You People use the internet and computer programs to help run their lives. All businesses use computers to calculate numbers and statistics or simply store information.
