Collaborating for Lasting Impact Jeannine Balfour Senior Program Officer, Domestic Programs Conrad N. Hilton Foundation Jane Carmody, Program Officer The John A. Hartford Foundation Mary O’Donnell, Vice President The Retirement Research Foundation May 1, 2019

The Retirement Research Foundation Mission: Improving quality of life for older people in the U.S. History: Founded by John D. McArthur; first grant awarded in 1979 “Pathways”: Advocacy, Applied Research, Training, Direct Service, Organizational Capacity Building Strategic Priority Areas: Stay Tuned!

Jeannine Goal: Our long term aim is that all transition age foster youth in Los Angeles County and New York City become self-sufficient and thriving adults. Over the next five years, we will address the challenges faced by all foster youth as they age out of the foster care system with a focus on career and college readiness. This includes specific high-risk youth, such as those who are pregnant and/or parenting and those also involved in the juvenile justice system.

Strengthen systems and policy: Promote comprehensive systems reform and policy change and enhance cross-system collaboration to expand funding and increase the field's ability to support foster TAY. Expand and share knowledge: Develop and share new knowledge and research to guide strong evidence-based policy and practice and improve outcomes for foster TAY. Advance programs: Find effective programs and models to help foster TAY gain the skills they need to become self-sufficient and thrive, with a primary emphasis on education and career success. Three Objectives Jeannine
