Disaster Epidemiology Subcommittee 2015-2016 Strategic Plan Vision: Using disaster epidemiology methods and tools to monitor and protect the public’s health before, during and after a disaster. Mission Statement: To strengthen partnerships between disaster epidemiology and other disciplines to support emergency preparedness and disaster response capacities and capabilities at local, state, regional, and national levels. Priority Area 1: Build networking opportunities and enhance the knowledge of disaster epidemiology Objective 1: Host an annual DE workshop. Objective 2: Present at regional or national conferences on the work, programs and initiatives of the subcommittee twice a year. Objective 3: Host 6 webinars, learning moments or training opportunities yearly. Objective 4: Gather and share tools, methodologies and evaluation information among jurisdictions. Objective 5: Develop marketing tools that promote the partnership and use of disaster epidemiologists and DE. Objective 6: Collaborate across disciplines and organizations to develop and implement improved disaster research approaches. Priority Area 2: Continue to define disaster epidemiology capabilities and its role in the disaster management framework Objective 1: Submit 1 position statement on the use of Electronic Deaths Records Systems for pubic health purposes for the CSTE Annual Conference by March 2016. Objective 2: Connect and engage mental health partners to promote surveillance for behavioral health needs during and following disasters. Objective 3: The Shelter Surveillance work group will work towards publishing a guidance document by June 2016. Cultivate continuous quality improvement. Leverage relationships and expertise among members and partners.
