Inferences

Foreshadowing Occurs when an author provides hints that suggest future events in a story.

Foreshadowing It builds suspense, or anxiety for the reader “Fore” means ahead, before “Shadow” means hint or suggestion Example: Before she is shot by hunters, Bambi’s mother gives Bambi a lecture about how dangerous men are.

Suspense A feeling of increasing tension and excitement felt by the reader

Suspense Contains Evokes the 5 senses (sensory details) Foreshadowing Dramatic irony Evokes the 5 senses (sensory details) Makes the reader anxious and want to read more Emotion and drama Weather reflects emotion Climactic ending Short timelines Villains are involved Uncertainty surrounding the main character Makes stories scary
