Welcome to our Parent Meeting Topic: The Importance of Independence

Today’s Agenda: Independence Daily Routine Monthly Calendar Homelinks Scholastic Books Field Trips iBlog and Remind

Independence Independence is one of the first skills we teach at school, such as : Washing hands Putting on their coats Serving themselves food When a child learns to do a skill independently they feel a sense pride that they have accomplished a skill. We encourage you to support your child at home but allow them the opportunity to do the task independently before offering help.

Things your child should be able to do Independently: Use the bathroom Wash and dry hands Get dressed: underwear, socks, pants, and shirt Put jacket on; and zip up Zip up back pack and put it on Serve own food Put toothpaste on brush and brush teeth Put shoes on ACTIVITY: Shoe Race

Daily Routine A daily routine is another skill we teach children in school to help them feel comfortable in the room. A daily routine builds structure and helps a child feel at ease because they know what to expect throughout the day. Children refer to the routine many times a day and it gives them a sense of ownership and order. Routines at home are as important as they are at school such as dinner, homework, and bedtime routines.

Afterschool Routine Snack Homework Play Outside Dinner Cartoon (30 Minutes)

Bedtime Routine Snack Cartoon Bath Pajamas Brush teeth Read a book In bed no later than 8:00 p.m. ACTIVITY: Bedtime Routine

Scholastic Books Books are one of the most important learning tools to have in your house because research indicates that reading to a child is the best thing you can do to help them learn to read. Books can be used in many ways such as: Listen to reading Looking at pictures, making up own story Looking for letters, numbers, colors, shapes Counting objects in books Scholstic books are a great way for you to build a library at home inexpensively. Field Trips We think it is an important experience for children to explore the community they live in; therefore we are excited to begin planning field trips for our students and families. Some things to look forward to are: St. Joesph Health Exploration Station Library Outdoor Fire Station/Park
