Independence Independence is one of the first skills we teach at school, such as : Washing hands Putting on their coats Serving themselves food When a child learns to do a skill independently they feel a sense pride that they have accomplished a skill. We encourage you to support your child at home but allow them the opportunity to do the task independently before offering help.
Things your child should be able to do Independently: Use the bathroom Wash and dry hands Get dressed: underwear, socks, pants, and shirt Put jacket on; and zip up Zip up back pack and put it on Serve own food Put toothpaste on brush and brush teeth Put shoes on ACTIVITY: Shoe Race
Daily Routine A daily routine is another skill we teach children in school to help them feel comfortable in the room. A daily routine builds structure and helps a child feel at ease because they know what to expect throughout the day. Children refer to the routine many times a day and it gives them a sense of ownership and order. Routines at home are as important as they are at school such as dinner, homework, and bedtime routines.
