Presentation transcript:

Today, we are going to continue last week’s discussion about stewardship… specifically focusing on our role as stewards of money and possessions.

As hard as it may be to understand, Jesus Christ talked about money more than any other subject. He spent 15% of His Gospel conversations on it. That’s more than His discussions on faith, prayer, Heaven & Hell combined!

Matthew 6: 19-21 19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in Heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Luke 12: 33-34 33 “Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.  34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Matthew 19: 27-29 Jesus shares with His disciples God’s extravagant “matching plan” for willing sacrifice to Him and God’s Kingdom.

by a newspaper reporter, John D. Rockefeller When he died, his accountant was asked by a newspaper reporter, "How much money did John D. leave?" And the accountant answered, "He left all of it."

1 Timothy 6: 17-19 The Apostle Paul warns the church against greed and for them to keep their eyes fixed on “eternal treasures.”

He wrote in his journal: John Wesley’s books and hymns sold over $76,600, yet at the time of his death he only had $42.92. He wrote in his journal: “When money comes into my hands I give it away, because if I hold onto it, it will get too close to my heart… I judge all things only by the price they shall gain in eternity.”

6 Keys from “The Treasure Principle” 1.) God owns everything. I’m his money manager. 2.) Heaven (not Earth) is my true home. 3.) I should live not for the “dot,” but the “line. 4.) My heart always goes where I put God’s money. 5.) Giving is the only antidote to Materialism. 6.) God prospers me, not to raise my standard of living, but to raise my standard of giving.
