Tuesday, September 13, 2o16 RACE Strategy Cite: cite evidence from the text. Random Example: Why is Jonas apprehensive about the upcoming Ceremony? As stated on page 24, “he hadn’t the slightest idea what Assignment the Elders would be selecting for his future, or how he might feel about it when the day came.” As stated on page 24, “he hadn’t the slightest idea what Assignment the Elders would be selecting for his future, or how he might feel about it when the day came.”

This can be done at the bottom of the organizer or on the back of your paper. Random Example: Why is Jonas apprehensive about the upcoming Ceremony? Jonas is apprehensive about the upcoming ceremony because he did not know what job he would be assigned. As stated on page 24, “he hadn’t the slightest idea what Assignment the Elders would be selecting for his future, or how he might feel about it when the day came.” This tells us that Jonas is uncertain of what his future hold and that is enough to make anyone apprehensive. Chapter 1-4 Discussion Questions Tuesday, September 13, 2016 The Giver Chapter 1-4 Discussion Questions What is significant (important- what does it show) about the airplane incident in the opening pages of the story? Why is Jonas apprehensive about the upcoming Ceremony? How are Assignments determined in the community? Why does the community value ‘precision of language’? What are the different ways the community views ‘release’? Explain the role of Birthmother in Jonas’s community. How is conformity encouraged in the community? What is the purpose of the telling of feelings? Why didn’t Jonas share the incident involving the apple with his family at the telling of feelings session that evening? How are the elderly treated in Jonas’s community? Grade Recovery: Keeping in mind the example we have gone over, please select 5 questions to resubmit. You will be able to earn up to 50 points back on your original assignment. (10 points per question) This is NOT optional! Each of your five questions should be answered using the RACE organizers provided. Be sure to include your fluid response on the back!
