We want to test how long it takes to complete a Tootsie Pop given a oz bag of 12 suckers. The Tootsie Pop industry claims it takes approximately 10 minutes and 30 seconds( 630 seconds) to finish 1 of their Tootsie Pops. We believe that it does not take this long.

Procedure/Strength and Weaknesses 1.Milton inserted 1 tootsie pop into his mouth and started timer. 2.He stopped the timer when the Tootsie Pop was soft enough to chew. The strengths of our test is that we remained consistent in our test with only Milton eating the Tootsie pops and constantly keeping time. The weakness of the test was the subjectivity of when the Tootsie Pop was soft enough some people may feel that the Tootsie Pop is enough before Milton did which may cause them to bite down sooner.

We are confident that our sample represents our population because all of the Tootsie pops should be the same size and weight and if not, the difference should not be substantial.

Mean= Min=566 Q1=906.5 Median=1461 Q3= Max=2045 Sx= Df=12

The graph is slightly skewed to the left with no outliers, the median is higher than the mean and the IQR is 869.

We want to test a claim that the mean time it takes to finish a Tootsie Pop is not 630 seconds Ha: The mean time it takes to finish a to finish a Tootsie pop is 630 seconds Ha: u=630 Ho: The mean time it takes to finish a Tootsie Pop is not 630 seconds Ho: u630 N=12 α=.05

The sample comes from a Srs Since σ is not know we will use a 1 sample T- test The graph is slightly skewed to the left but not enough to prevent the use of T

Equation: T=X bar-u/s/n T= /513.93/12= Using TI-841 sample T-test P=.0004 We will reject Ho because p=.0004 Is not significant at the.01level

It does in fact take longer than the 630 seconds One of the things that may of effected our results was Milton taking the sucker out of his mouth at certain times to speak or to check how much of the candy coating remained on the pop. Because we were were determining the time based on how long the sucker was in Miltons mouth, second could have been shaved off of the actual time.
