Reliability Society Overview RS Chapter Congress Reliability Society Overview Dennis R. Hoffman RS President June 17, 2012

IEEE Mission Statement Foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity IEEE is the world's leading professional association for the advancement of technology 416,000 members, including 107,000 students Members living and working in over 160 countries 333 Sections in 10 geographic regions worldwide 38 Societies and 7 Councils representing a wide range of technical interests More than 2000 Technical Chapters that unite local members with similar technical interests Sponsors more than 1,300 annual conferences and meetings worldwide Publishes 155 Transactions, Journals, and Magazines Over 2 million documents in the IEEE / IET Electronic Library (Xplore) Nearly 1,000 Standards with projects under development

Real Value in Membership Reliability Society Overview One of the focused technical societies within the IEEE Focused on the broad aspects of Reliability, allowing our Society to be viewed as the “IEEE Specialty Engineering” organization Develops and provides technical information via: Publications Training Conferences Standards Technical Library (IEEE Xplore) Data Technical Committees Broad membership / great contacts Real Value in Membership

Reliability Society Overview Vision / Goal To be the recognized leader for the broad aspects of reliability Mission Statement Promote recognition of the Reliability and related professions, develop and disseminate Best Practices for effective reliability, and be a resource for collaboration among Reliability and its related professionals Purpose / Objective To be the organization of choice to bring Reliability professionals together by providing value-added benefits, technically and professionally

Reliability Society Field of Interest The Reliability Society is concerned with strategies and best practices for attaining, assessing, and assuring system reliability, in the broadest sense, and maintaining it throughout its life cycle. Reliability is a design attribute of a system (encompassing service and process). Even though reliability is intangible physically, it is a true system performance measure. The Society membership encompasses engineers who are designing, analyzing, producing and assessing some portion or level of a system, be it hardware, software, devices, processes, or materials.

Broad Reliability Aspects Reliability – Availability – Dependability Specifications – Requirements – Development – Testing – Monitoring System of Systems to Devices / Processes Hardware – Software – Specifics

Broad Reliability Aspects Reliability – Availability – Dependability Maintainability Testability Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) Human Interface Integrity System Safety Supportability System Security Privacy / Trust

Reliability Society Purpose Founded for practicing engineers, scientists, system analysts, and engineering managers to: Become more competent in reliability disciplines and updated in state-of-the-art reliability activities Provide a medium for technical exchange in reliability and related fields Advance the reliability discipline Mold the body of specialists in reliability and related fields into a more effective force dedicated to product improvement
