AP Gov Review: Video #14: Political Parties’ Effects On The Political Process

How Do Political Parties Affect Politics? Unites candidates and voters under similar ideologies Provides information to voters about how a candidate might vote on issues When voters cast ballots for a president, they can vote for other candidates based on the political party “Presidential coattails” - not as applicable in recent elections “Yellow dog” Democrats consistently voted Democratic during the days of the Solid South (Post-Reconstruction) Political Parties sometimes split into a new party (Bull Moose), taking votes away from original party (Republicans)
