NDPHS side-event “Health is wealth and wealth is health” Purpose This event is part of a project led by the NDPHS Secretariat in its capacity as the Coordinator of the Policy Area “Health” of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR). The aims of the event are: Stressing the importance of health and social well-being for the economy and other policy areas Help increase the profile of health and social well-being among regional stakeholders Programme Presentations: Mr. Björn Ekman: The Importance of Health and Social Well-being for the Economy and Other Policy Areas Mr. Mikko Rissanen: Investing in health at work: Saving billions by reducing sickness absence – case Finland Possibly presentations from event participants Open discussion followed by conclusions from the event

NDPHS – The Partners and their aims The NDPHS is a cooperative effort of nine governments (Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russia and Sweden), the European Commission and eight international organisations. The Partnership aims to help (i) promote the reduction of major communicable diseases, (ii) prevent lifestyle related non-communicable diseases, and (iii) enhance and promote healthy and socially rewarding lifestyles. The Partnership strives to achieve this by: Contributing to intensified co-operation in social and health development, and Enhancing co-ordination of international activities within the Northern Dimension area.

NDPHS – Implementation (areas of action) Monitoring and assessment of the situation in the region Development of policy recommendations Facilitation of a coordinated development and implementation of regional projects Dissemination of information, outreach and involvement of relevant stakeholders Mainstreaming of results of cooperation High-level ministerial dialogue
