Microsoft Project Notes Amir

Tasks Types Fixed Unit tasks – Unit refers to assignment Units as percentages. A resource can be assigned to a task 100% or 50% i.e. means resource is available for half his time. Fixed Duration tasks – A task that takes specified amount of time, even if you have more than one person working on it Fixed work tasks – If 1 person takes 4 days to do a job. And if you assign 2 person that means job gets done in 2 days. Effort Driven – By default all fixed work task are effort driven

Task Dependency Finish to start – First part is the related to predecessor and next part to successor. This is most common. The predecessor task must finish before the successor task can start. This is created by using the LINK buttons on Taskbar. Start to Start – Successor cannot start until predecessor starts Finish to Finish – The successor task cannot finish until predecessor Start to Finish – Successor task cannot finish until predecessor task starts

Constraints type As late as Possible – Project forces task to start on the last date possible, so the tasks ends no later than the END Date. Finish No Earlier than Or Finish no Later – Project makes sure that the task finishes no sooner or later than a date you supply. Must Start On Or Must Finish On – Project forces the task to start or finish on a date we supply Start no Earlier Than or Start No Later Than – Project makes sure task starts no sooner or later than supplied date

Resources Types Work – Usually People, based on Time Material – Based on some unit of measurement, per/sq ft Cost – Cost incurred not depended on amount of work or duration. Like Cab fare, Hotel etc Accrued At – Start (of task) – End (of Task) – or Prorated (distributed evenly over the life of Task)
