Total Floor Coating System Single / Double Broadcast System Self- leveling System A D B C A D Primer (A)–Often used with broadcast systems, and are highly recommended for any application on concrete (including damp/green). Can be pigmented if no base coat is used. Base coat or Mid coat – Self-level slurry (B) (50-60 mil dry); unfilled clear for single/double broadcast (C) (10-20 mil dry) or coating (5-10 mil dry). Top coat or Seal coat (D)– Applied as a clear coat on top of base or mid coat (10-20 mil dry). To combat the weaknesses of concrete a coating or flooring is applied to it. In this talk we will discuss a total flooring system that starts with a primer. Primers or sealers are highly recommended for any application onto concrete especially damp or green concrete. This is then followed by a base coat which can be a thin coating or a thicker floor. The base coat is then followed by a clear top coat to provide the ultimate in performance properties.

Attributes of a Total Floor Coating System Great Handling Properties Long working time Rapid property development “Green” Environmentally friendly Zero to low VOC Low odor Excellent Performance Properties Good adhesion to concrete (dry and damp) Good recoatability Fast return to service UV stability Chemical / stain resistance Impact resistance Abrasion resistance Some of the advantages of using our total floor system are listed on this slide. Just to point out a few of them are that although you would be applying multiple coats you still have very fast return to service with our combined systems and Shafiq will go through exact timing in more detail later. Also you can have very short or very long recoat time depending on the needs of your customer. And of course by using these two systems you will achieve the ultimate in performance such as great UV stability as well as many others.

Advanced Thermoset Technologies - Polycarbamide Technology Key attributes Very rapid cure speed Low temperature cure Excellent UV resistance Thick films in 1 pass (up to 20 mils) Good stain & chemical resistance High abrasion resistance High impact resistance High gloss Current Limitations Ability to control gloss levels for topcoat applications As I mentioned before some of the key attributes of the polycarbamide technology are its fast return to service due to its very rapid cure speeds. It also can be applied at very low temperatures down to 0C and results in coatings with very high gloss and ultimate UV resistance. Another key attribute is that a thick film – up to 20 mils - can be applied in one coat. Again as with all technologies there are some limitations and for the polycarbamides one of them being adhesion to damp concrete. This is due to the reaction of the moisture with the isocyanate. And because of it’s very rapid cure speed the recoat window is not very long.

High Gloss is nice, but… Formulators want flexibility in providing topcoats with wide gloss range Low gloss coatings hide flaws better Surface wear are not easily seen with satin finish Customer preference Current Thermoset Technologies used for high and low gloss topcoats Solventborne Polyurethanes Waterborne Polyurethane

New Novel Polycarbamide Technology Unique new amine curing agent designed for use with aliphatic isocyanate resins in high performance flooring applications The new Polycarbamide technology, Amicure® IC-322 retains the excellent UV stability and durability of our current commercial offerings, and plus builds in an exciting new Feature: Formulating flexibility gives the formulator important new latitude to: Customize finish between High Gloss and Satin Low gloss finish is obtained by adding a specialized commercial matting agent in the formulation Brings in some VOC, but still <100 g/L

Advanced Thermoset Technologies Conclusion A new amine curing agent, Amicure IC-322 has been developed for use in Polycarbamide coatings. Formulating flexibility gives the formulator important new latitude to customize gloss between High Gloss and Satin finish. The low gloss Polycarbamide formulation provides improved benefits over traditional low gloss thermoset technologies: Rapid property development Early chemical and water resistance Ability to apply thick films in one pass Can apply satin finish at lower temperatures
