Project VERA: On stimulating industrial heat pumps Project Manager: Partners: Researchers: Planning: ISPT Cluster: Frans van den Akker ISPT, Utrecht University Alco Kieft, Joeri Wesseling September 2017 – August 2019 Social Acceptance (ST-20-05) 1 - Motivation: Heat pump technology has a lot of potential to reduce energy-use, promote electrification, and stimulate circularity in industrial processes. 3 - Objective: Identify ways to improve the conditions for further development and implementation of industrial heat pumps in the Netherlands by analyzing its Technological Innovation System (TIS). 4 - Approach: Determine TIS performance by analysing how well seven key processes are fulfilled (see figure below). Identify what problems are inhibiting TIS performance. Formulate interventions that increase TIS performance, thus contributing to further development and implementation of indutrial heat humps in the Netherlands. 2 - Innovation System perspective: The success of industrial heat pump technology strongly depends on how well its innovation system develops (consisting of actors, networks, rules/regulations, norms/values). 1 2 3 4 5 (1) Entrepreneurial experimentation (2) Knowledge Development (3) Knowledge exchange (4) Guidance of the search (5) Market formation (6) Resource mobilization (7) Counteracting resistance to change This project is co-funded with subsidy from the Topsector Energie by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy. www.ispt.eu Institute for Sustainable Process Technology
