He is in Your Midst

Introduction The declaration, “God is in your midst,” or some similar expression, occurs in three separate Scriptural contexts (Deut. 7:21; Zeph. 3:15, 17; Luke 17:21). Let us consider these in succession, drawing application from each.

The Time of the Conquest This realization comforted Israel in the days of Joshua when they were engaged in the work of conquering Canaan (Deut. 7:12- 26).

The Time of the Exile This realization comforted Israel in the days of the restoration, as they humbly began anew, after suffering the painful consequences of disobedience (Zeph. 3:12-20).

The Time of the King This realization comforted Christians during the first century, as they enjoyed the security of being citizens in the kingdom of God, even though the world was crashing down around them (Luke 17:20-37).

Conclusion Let us ever remember, “The Lord God is in our midst!” This knowledge offers comfort as we faithfully stand for the truth and oppose error (Eph. 6:10-20).

Conclusion Let us ever remember, “The Lord God is in our midst!” It offers comfort when we stumble, but humbly seek His renewed favor through repentance (Matt. 11:28-30).

Conclusion Let us ever remember, “The Lord God is in our midst!” It offers comfort as we enjoy the blessings of Kingdom citizenship, though the very foundations of our society seem to be crumbling (Psa. 11:1-7).
