Overview of Exploration in the Americas Why did Europeans explore?

The Treaty of Tordesillas, written by the Pope, gave Spain the west and Portugal the east plus Brazil as shown on the map. What was significant about this treaty?

Slavery changes during this time period to be based on race and heredity. Africans were used as labor because they were more used to the type of work that needed to be done than the natives. How is this different from earlier slave systems?

Columbian Exchange: Advantages: New goods are shared and the hemispheres are united by trade Disadvantages: Disease, slavery, war Who benefitted from the Colombian Exchange? Be sure to read pages 500-503.
