Legal Influences on Business All: Understand the areas that legislation covers in usiness Most: Explain how the employment relations act 2000 affects business operations

Business Legislation Laws are set by government and enforced by the police The type of government will reflect the laws passed. Businesses are governed by laws addressing the following three areas: Employment Consumers Business Operations

Employment Relations Act (ERA) 2000 This protects the rights of employees, these are the minimum that all employees can expect. This act prevents exploitation of workers and uphold working conditions that everyone must follow. It outlines for example…. The need for all employees to have written employment contracts / agreement All workers must be paid at least the minimum wage Employees entitled to paid rest breaks and unpaid meal breaks during the working shift Employers must not discriminate regarding pay, hiring, firing, training or promotion based upon sexual orientation, race, colour, religion

Need and Objectives for ERA To provide a standard of employment that is accessible to all workers To ensure fairness across all working practices Ensure workers rights are upheld Ensure representation of all workers Give collective protection where union membership is unavailable
