Recording Attributes Click here to start the quiz

Click here to open a website you want to catalogue then return to the quiz here Recording Attributes Go to Question 1

Section 1 of RDA is about recording attributes of: Works and Expressions Manifestations Recording Attributes Manifestations and Items

You got it Right Section 1 of RDA is where you go to find guidelines on recording attributes of manifestations and items Next question Recording Attributes

Sorry, You got it wrong Have a look in the Toolkit and go back to the question to try again Go back to question Recording Attributes

What pre-cataloguing decisions do you need to make? Type of description (1.5) Mode of issuance (2.13) Preferred source of information (2.2.2) All of the above

You got it Right Type of description (1.5) = Comprehensive Mode of issuance (2.13) = Single Unit Choose a source of information that describes the resource as a whole ( and 2.2.2) Next question Recording Attributes

Go back to question Recording Attributes Sorry, you are partly correct You are right, but there is a more complete answer. Check the Toolkit and go back to the question to try again

Where are instructions for transcribing the title proper? RDA RDA RDA Recording Attributes

You got it Right is the instruction for recording the title proper. Title proper is a core element. You are referred back to for choosing the sources of information. For instructions on transcription, see the Basic instructions on recording title at , here you are also referred back to 1.7 for general guidelines on transcription Next question Recording Attributes

Go back to question Recording Attributes Sorry, You got it wrong Check the Toolkit and go back to the question to try again

How would you transcribe the title proper of the website Recording Attributes Title: The national public toilet map Title: THE NATIONAL PUBLIC TOILET MAP Title: Public toilet map

Go back to question Recording Attributes Sorry, You got it wrong Check the Toolkit and go back to the question to try again

You got it Right RDA tells you to transcribe the title as found on the resource. Under the general rules for transcription (1.7) you are referred to instructions for capitalisation in Appendix A. A.4 contains the guidelines for titles of manifestations which tells you to capitalise the first letter of the first word. The alternative instruction at allows institutions to follow in house guidelines on capitalisation therefore the title for this website could be recorded in capitals. Next question Recording Attributes

Is other title information core? Yes No Recording Attributes

You got it Right Other title information is not core in RDA, however LC practice is to make it core (see the LC-PCC PS). It is likely that many libraries will follow LC practice. Title: The national public toilet map : a project of the national continence management strategy Next question Recording Attributes

Go back to question Recording Attributes Sorry, You got it wrong Check the Toolkit and go back to the question to try again

Place of publication is not on the Homepage but is found elsewhere on the website. Should it be recorded in square brackets? Yes No Recording Attributes

You got it Right RDA – Place of publication can be taken from: a)The same source as the publishers name b)Another source within the resource itself c)One other source specified under There is no instruction to use square brackets If the place of publication does not appear on the resource at all you may record it in square brackets (see RDA ) Next question Recording Attributes

Next question Recording Attributes Sorry, You got it wrong Go back to question to try again

How would you transcribe the publishers name in the publication statement? Australian Government, Department of Health and Ageing Australia. Dept. Of Health and Ageing Recording Attributes Department of Health and Ageing

You got it Right RDA instructs you to record the publishers name applying the basic instructions on recording publication statements given under At the instruction says transcribe places of publication and publishers' names in the form in which they appear on the source of information. Apply the general guidelines on transcription given under 1.7 At 1.7 we are instructed to transcribe the element as it appears on the resource. At we can add punctuation if necessary for clarity. Appendix B gives guidelines on abbreviations, but there are no instructions for abbreviating transcribed elements – see B.4 Next question Recording Attributes

Go back to question Recording Attributes Sorry, You got it wrong Go back to question to try again

Under RDA , what term would you use to describe the extent of the website 1 website 1 online resource Recording Attributes lots of web pages

You got it Right RDA tells us to record the number of units and an appropriate term from the carrier type list ( ). At we have the option of using a term in common usage if the carrier type terms are not appropriate. This decision may be a combination cataloguers judgement and terms preferred by your institution. Next question Recording Attributes Title: The national public toilet map : a project of the national continence management strategy Publication statement: Canberra : Australian Government, Department of Health and Ageing, Extent: 1 online resource.

Go back to question Recording Attributes Sorry, You got it wrong Check the Toolkit and Go back to the question to try again

You have recorded the extent of the resource, this means you do not need to record the content, media and carrier types True Recording Attributes False

You got it Right Content and Carrier types are both core elements, this means it is mandatory to record them. Content, media and carrier types have been defined in the Open Metadata Registry which means that both humans and machines can read them, where as extent is human readable only. Next question Recording Attributes

Go back to question Recording Attributes Sorry, You got it wrong Check the Toolkit and go back to the question to try again

How many terms listed at 6.9 can you use to describe the content of this website? Limit to three As many as applicable to the resource Recording Attributes The one that applies to the most prominent part of the resource

You got it Right RDA instructs to record the appropriate term or terms but not the number of units. Carrier type is a more specific term listed under broad media type terms Next question Recording Attributes Title: The national public toilet map : a project of the national continence management strategy Publication statement: Canberra : Australian Government, Department of Health and Ageing, Extent: 1 online resource. Next question Recording Attributes

Go back to question Recording Attributes Sorry, You got it wrong Check the Toolkit and go back to question to try again

What is the authorised access point for the work? Public toilet map Recording Attributes National public toilet map

You got it Right The preferred title for the work, in this case, is the same as the title of the manifestation. RDA acknowledges this situation at with the example: Little acorn - Preferred title for work by Christa Kauble that has only one expression and only one manifestation. The manifestation was published under the title: The little acorn In practice, a MARC 130 or 240 field is not added when it is the same as the title proper of the manifestation. The MARC 245 field effectively acts as the authorised access point Next question Recording Attributes

Go back to question Recording Attributes Sorry, You got it wrong Check the Toolkit and go back to the question to try again

Recording Attributes The author of the website is the Australian Government. Where in RDA are the instructions for constructing the access point for this author Chapter 9 Chapter 10 Chapter 11

Recording Attributes You got it Right Chapter 11 contains the guidelines for recording attributes of corporate bodies. RDA is where you go to find instructions on constructing the access points representing corporate bodies. Making decisions about choosing who is the creator of a resource is about the relationship between the person, family or corporate body and the resource. Guidelines on making this decision are in chapter 18 – and we will look at this in detail today. Next question

Go back to question Recording Attributes Sorry, You got it wrong Check the Toolkit and go back to the question to try again

B.2 has two specific circumstances where a words in name can be abbreviated. Finish
