Extended writing question criteria Level 3 6 – 8 marks Students spell, punctuate and use rules of grammar accurately and use a wide range of specialist terms precisely. At least 3 Principles of training or SPORT fully explained and applied to a sporting example to show how they will add overload to improve fitness. Level 2 3 – 5 marks Students spell, punctuate and use rules of grammar with reasonable accuracy and use a range of specialist terms appropriately. Explains at least 2 principles of training. Principles of training or SPORT are stated with some application to a sporting example to show how they will improve fitness. The principles are only stated with no application made to show how they will improve fitness. 0 marks No creditworthy material Apply specifically to the question Give detail, using an example Make key point

Break down of exam answers Make key point In order to improve her performance she could gradually use the overload principle, by doing more than her body is used to. Overload should be increased gradually so during the programme she could increase the frequency by doing more sessions each week. She could also increase the intensity she trains at. Within her aerobic training zone (60-80% of her maximum heart rate) she could increase her intensity from working at 60% to working at 70% throughout the run. Finally she could increase the length of time she runs for from 2hrs to 2.5hrs. All of these will increase her cardiovascular endurance and allow her to run faster and more efficiently than her opponents towards the end of the race. Give detail, using an example Apply specifically to the question
