Polynomial Long Division ÷ Free powerpoints at

Its just Division! The polynomial we divide with is called The Dividend The polynomial we divide by is called The Divisor The answer is called The Quotient

Lets start Lets divide x 2 + 4x + 4 by x + 2 : x 2 + 4x + 4 x + 2

Use the Long division

How to fill in as to start? First, write the dividend inside. Next, write the divisor outside. Then, divide and the Quotient will be up. DivisorDividend Quotient

Now Divide... x 2 + 4x + 4 x + 2 You divide the first monomial from the Dividend by the first monomial from the Divisor. You write the answer in the Quotients place. x 2 ÷ x = x x

Multiply the answer x by the Divisor x x 2 + 4x + 4 x + 2 x 2 + 2x Write the answer under the dividend and subtract it from the dividend x + 4

Not finished, continue the Division x 2 + 4x + 4 x + 2 x x 2 + 2x 2x + 4 Repeat the same steps… Divide 2x by x + 2 2x ÷ x = 2

Finish it! x 2 + 4x + 4 x + 2 -x 2 - 2x 2x + 4 x + 2 Multiply 2 by the divisor. 2x Subtract and answer.

Finally… x 2 + 4x + 4 x + 2 = x + 2 Done by: George Saad
