Moon Phase Cards 12-14-2016

Phase 1 – New Moon Characteristics: No light visible on moon face Primarily seen during daylight hours Lasts 1 day

Phase 2 – Waxing Crescent Moon Characteristics: Right side lit Goes from thin sliver to almost half the moon Lasts 6 days

Phase 3 – First Quarter Moon Characteristics: Right half of moon is lit Lasts 1 day Moon has completed ¼ of its orbit around Earth

Phase 4 – Waxing Gibbous moon Characteristics: Over half the moon is lit Shadow is on the LEFT Lasts about 6 days

Phase 5 – Full Moon Characteristics: Full side of moon facing Earth is lit No shadow Lasts 1 day, but appears full 3 days

Phase 6 – Waning Gibbous moon Characteristics: Over half the moon lit Shadow on RIGHT Lasts 6 days, from full moon to 3rd quarter moon

Phase 7 – 3rd Quarter Moon Characteristics: Left half of moon is lit Lasts 1 day Moon has completed ¾ of its orbit around Earth
