1984 and BNW Jigsaw Teaching Clouse 2017

Jigsaw Teaching Jigsaw—a method, taught in teacher college, that allows students to share in a portion of the task, yet when everyone is involved, the material is covered in its entirety Teaching—to instruct others

1984 and Brave New World Jigsaw You will be put into groups Each group will be teaching fictional elements of the novels with PowerPoint technology. Here are the groupings: Character POV and Setting Plot and Conflict Symbolism Tone and Diction Theme Style (Form = Function)

Dates 2 Weeks to read each novel (outside of class) I will schedule the lab for Sep 11 Presentations will begin Sep 18

Criteria for Grading—Rubric Your teaching should be an analysis of the particular elements. As always you should explain for what purpose the author utilized your element. You should have questions for your students. We will discuss these. You should provide visuals that do not detract from your presentation. See images . One would possibly work. Which one? Your presentation, a mini-lesson, should be at least 15 minutes but not exceed 20. It is worth 60 points in the test/paper/project section. Questions?

Keys for a Decent PowerPoint Presentation Key #1—No cheesy clipart! PARC is the easiest way for decency. Proximity — Group like things together Alignment — Both visible and invisible Repetition — Repeat design aspects Contrast — Make important points salient If you do not use PARC, you get CRAP! Minimum 18 pt. font; use sans serif font Use animation to focus your students.
