Low Carbon Across the South East Christopher Seamark Kent County Council Low Carbon Across the South East (LoCASE)

Firstly, the Industrial Strategy highlighted the importance of low-carbon and environmental goods and services to the UK economy and the anticipated growth rates of 5% per year in the sector over those intervening five years up to 2017. Equally important, and supporting the drive for low carbon goods and services, was the 2008 Climate Change Act which aims to reduce the UK’s GHG emissions by at least 80% by 2050. Therefore, supporting UK companies to use resources (like water, energy and natural materials) more efficiently will bring direct benefits to UK businesses, including savings of around £23 billion a year, a reduction in their carbon emissions, and will ensure they are more resilient to climate change and the rising cost of commodities.
