I Spy Components and Characteristics of an Informative Text By: Aruzhan, Arsen and Jaewoo

Introduction In non-fiction text books, there are lots of non-fiction text features. If non-fiction books don’t have those, it will be less detail, less interesting and will be hard to understand author’s meaning. Today, I’m going to tell about non-fiction text features. Enjoy!

Graphic Features Graphic features can explain about data easily by showing diagrams, maps, charts, timelines, etc. I think graphic features are the best ways to show data.

Diagrams A drawing or plan that outlines and explains the parts, operation, etc.,of something: I shows the arrival times of P and S waves.

Maps This map explains people’s movement and I can see they moved through Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia.

This chart shows the number that existed in Maya.

Timelines t It shows a timeline. A timeline is a line that shows information in order. A timeline of World War 1. It shows what happened during the war.

Text features are the features which is about the text.

Headings Heading means title of a page. The heading is Think Like a Scientist. This heading shows me that the page is going to be about scientists.

I can understand that Gilgamesh was a legendary king of Uruk. Captions I can understand that Gilgamesh was a legendary king of Uruk.

Special type Different kind of font to Show that this word is important.

Text Structure

Narrative Special type of writing.

Sequence In this text, I can notice that the coal is the rock made out of dead plants and new layers form and squeezes the coal. After millions of years, dead plants becomes coal.

Compare/Contrast In this text I can notice that outer core and inner core are made out of iron and nickel, but outer core is liquid and inner core is solid.

Cause/Effect In this text, I can understand that because of plate moving, the land’s shape changes.

Problem/Solution In this text, the miners are homeless but the mine created and they worked there.

I can understand by word’s description.

Conclusion I prefer you to use compare and contrast feature because in my opinion comparing two things it’s fun. All of the pictures I used is my science textbook.

Conclusion I enjoyed doing my presentation a lot. My favorite feature is diagram because it has a lot of arrows connected to one body of information.

Conclusion In my opinion, timeline is the most helpful non-fiction text features in historical non-fiction books because it makes reader understand easily by showing what happened in timeline.
