1 st 6 Weeks Vocab Review Food Chain and Food Webs.
How is an organism’s energy role determined in an ecosystem?
 an organism that makes its own food  an organism that eats other living things to get energy.
4 th Grade SAL1: Students will describe the roles of organisms and the flow of energy within an ecosystem.
Who’s Who in a Food Chain?
Energy Flows Through Ecosystems Sun: Makes all energy on Earth. Producers: Make their own food. Consumers: Get their food by eating other organisms. Decomposers:
Within a food chain, some living things create the energy and some use the energy.
Nutrition and Energy Flow What eats what?. How organisms get energy Autotrophs make their own nutrients Autotrophs make their own nutrients Plants use.
Food webs model interactions within the community.
 the transfer of energy and matter in the form of food when one organism eats another organism.

What is a food chain? A food chain is shows the feeding relationship between organisms in an ecosystem. Producers Herbivores Carnivores Decomposers

Producers Plants that get their food from the sun’s energy and act as a source of food for other organisms in an ecosystem.

An animal that eats plants rather than other animals. Herbivores

Carnivores An animal that eats meat.

Decomposers An organism, like bacteria, that breaks down dead plant or animal matter and releases their nutrients back into the soil.
