Class and Team Business New schedules – check your exploratories and homeroom! New bathroom passes – using Quarter 2 passes in your agenda. This is now your homeroom! Take out notebook, folder, pencil box every morning. Put backpack against the wall as directed.

Walk-In Copy the question at the back of your notebook and answer in sentences: What can we infer (figure out) about our society from the fact that people stop at red lights?

Answers We have laws, rules and consequences. We obey laws that keep us safe and make sense to us. We accept our leaders’ decisions to make laws for us. We have a voice in our laws and making changes to them.

Welcome to world history Early Asian Civilizations

Each day, QUIETLY get a chair out and sit down. Walk-In Routine Each day, QUIETLY get a chair out and sit down. Unpack your notebook, folder, pencil box and agenda. Put away your backpack.

Walk-In Questions Each Walk-In question goes at the BACK of your notebook. Put the date in the TOP RIGHT CORNER. Write the title Walk-In. Copy the question in your notebook. Answer it the best you can. It’s okay if you’re wrong, but it’s not okay not to try.

Staying Organized Daily notes go at the FRONT of your notebook. You do not need to start on a fresh page. Begin a new day’s work right below where you left off the day before. Write the date at the top right corner. Write the title in the middle of the page. Handouts go into your WH folder, in the order that you got them (keeps handouts organized!).

Essential Questions Rather than focus on itty-bitty little facts and dates, we will zero in on BIG IDEAS. We will answer Essential Questions about each civilization that we study. Consider the following questions.

Essential Questions For each civilization, we would like to know: How and why does the rule of law develop in civilizations? How do religion and government exercise authority over people? How did the earliest civilizations begin, develop, and decline? How did geography influence civilization? How do ancient world civilizations influence our world today?

GRAPES Remember GRAPES? Discuss with your group which part of GRAPES each question helps to answer.

Textbook Routine Use the table positions of A,B, C, D to know who is getting books for their table. Please take out and put away books carefully! A’s, please get textbooks for your table.

Textbook Walk What is on page vi to xi? What is on page A1? What is on page 24? Why would it be in a textbook about Ancient History?Look at page 32. Can you find 4 text features that help you understand the topic? What is on page 61? What helps you figure out what you are looking at? Look at page 256. How is a diagram different from a picture?

Textbook Walk, continued What is on page R34? Why are these important? What is on page R60? What makes it easy to find this section compared to other sections? What is on page R78? What does it remind you of? What is on page R98? How is it the same and different from the Table of Contents?
