Syndicate Groups

Topic for discussion A framework for contemplating your coaching topic What is the presenting topic/challenge (i.e. what has you concerned or excited or unsure, etc.)? What are the driving forces for this shift/change? What makes this an issue for you (and not necessarily someone else)? What is your understanding of why it is this way? How do you know it’s an issue? How can you tell? What has you stuck/uncertain how to proceed? What have you tried so far? What do you want to learn/develop? What is the ideal future/what would success look like for you? (Fiona Stott, Impact Coaching Canada, 2018)

Examples of challenges • Managing organisational change and re-engineering programmes while continuing to deliver results for clients. • Assessing the impact of your decisions and preparing for even tougher decisions. • The challenges of how to cope with divided loyalties to both the organisation, and to your people, or to yourself. • Leading on issues that you may not agree with but are responsible for making happen. • Facilitating and implementing change without knowing all the information. Before coming to the programme as preparation, we ask that you take some time to think about the challenge you will share with your syndicate, any other challenges you are facing, your leadership strengths and areas to work on for your own development, and some of the objectives raised in this document. Your challenge should not focus on your organisational structure or local issues within your area of work, but be a significant leadership challenge based on your own leadership journey.

Examples of challenges (cont.) • Sustaining constructive relations with colleagues in an increasingly competitive environment. • The challenge of balancing the delivery of results and high performance with supporting staff and their issues. • Balancing the ambition to take on greater responsibility with delivering high quality results in the present. • Delivering more with less available resources. • Managing people through cut backs and how it affects them and you.
