Preoperative Intraaortic Balloon Pump Enhances Cardiac Performance and Improves the Outcome of Redo CABG  Jan T. Christenson, MD, PhD, Pierre Badel, MD, François Simonet, MD, Martin Schmuziger, MD  The Annals of Thoracic Surgery  Volume 64, Issue 5, Pages 1237-1244 (November 1997) DOI: 10.1016/S0003-4975(97)00898-9 Copyright © 1997 The Society of Thoracic Surgeons Terms and Conditions

Fig 1 Mean cardiac index (CI) values (L • min−1 • m−1) in high-risk patients undergoing redo coronary artery bypass grafting. Group 1 (black bars) received preoperative treatment by intraaortic balloon pump (IABP), group 2 (striped bars) had no preoperative IABP support, and group 2b (open bars) were patients without preoperative IABP, but who required IABP postoperatively. All measurements were performed without IABP in group 1, except values just before cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) and all values in group 2b, where measurements were obtained during ongoing IABP support.
