Presentation transcript:

Review for quiz Whenever we come into the room we will write down our learning target in our agenda. (What am I learning today.) Every day I will bring my independent reading book and my composition notebook. I should have a spot to put notes and papers so I don’t lose them. Every Friday all I need is my independent reading book.

Review for quiz Literacy timeline – my timeline of reading and what it means to me. Previewing a book – first I should look at the cover and then I should read the back. Five Finger Test – Open to a random page Hold up 5 fingers Begin reading Put down a finger each time you get stuck If you get to the bottom with at least one finger up it passes the test!

Review for quiz Reading log – a log that shows the date, how many pages I read, and how long I read. Reading voices – Interacting voice – me asking questions and talking about the book Distracting voice – what is stopping me from reading Refocusing voice- what am I doing to help me start reading again

Review for quiz Theme: central ideas in the novel, the author’s meaning for the story. Exposition: the beginning of the story; including the characters and setting. Conflict: the problem that makes the story interesting.

Review for quiz 4. Rising Action: the events that build suspense and create interest in the story 5. Climax: the point of great suspense or intensity, usually near the end of the story

Review for quiz 6. Falling action: the events that wrap up the story after the climax 7. Resolution: how the story ends and the problem is solved

Review for quiz Theme: Life lesson, meaning, moral, or message about life or human nature that is communicated by a literary work. In other words… Theme is what the story teaches readers.

Review for quiz A theme is not a word, it is a sentence. You don’t have to agree with the theme to identify it. Examples Money can’t buy happiness. Don’t judge a book by its cover. It is better to die free than live under tyranny.
