2009 INTERNATIONAL EXPEDITION NEW ZEALAND ODYSSEY Tramping, known elsewhere as hiking or bushwalking, is a popular activity in New Zealand. Tramping is defined as a recreational activity involving walking over rough country carrying all the required food and equipment. The term is generally used for trips that are of at least one overnight stay in the backcountry.

2009 INTERNATIONAL EXPEDITION NEW ZEALAND ODYSSEY The Odyssey will take Cadets and Staff from Auckland to the Southern tip of the North Island to the Capital of Wellington, home of the world renown Te Papa Museum. The best Tramping awaits on the South Island centered around the Nelson area.

2009 INTERNATIONAL EXPEDITION NEW ZEALAND ODYSSEY The Wangapeka Track is a 53 Km journey through some of the most rugged and scenic bush land and mountains of the South Island. Best guided by local experts, it is one of the foremost hikes in New Zealand if not the world.

2009 INTERNATIONAL EXPEDITION NEW ZEALAND ODYSSEY The Heaphy Track is a good option for those who may be assessed at a lower physical level than required for the Wangapeka. It leaves an an option to separate into two Tramping Groups each with a certified guide and CIC Expedition Member should it be required

2009 INTERNATIONAL EXPEDITION NEW ZEALAND ODYSSEY After the Trek the Expedition will overnight in Motueka. Geographically it is the most complex area in New Zealand, with rolling tussock downs, wild river gorges, karsts, outcrops and spectacular cave systems It also provides the opportunity to sample Maori Culture first hand

2009 INTERNATIONAL EXPEDITION NEW ZEALAND ODYSSEY The adventure continues with two days on the Abel Tasman Track. This Track was an original trade route of the Maori and is located in one of the most pristine areas of New Zealand. It provides a excellent example of the coastal area of the Island with opportunity to encounter the marine wildlife of New Zealand

2009 INTERNATIONAL EXPEDITION NEW ZEALAND ODYSSEY The adventure ends with a day of off road cycling around the Nelson area. Host to some of the worlds greatest off road cycling and mountain biking events, Nelson is a must do on any bikers list.

Friday 01 Jan 10(Groups Split if Req ) Day 7: Heaphy or Wangapeka Track. Saturday 02 Jan 10 Day 8: Heaphy or Wangapeka Track. Sunday 03 Jan 10 Day 9: End Track, night at Motueka Monday 04 Jan 10(Cultural) Day 10: Water Taxi to Abel Tasman Track. Tuesday 05 Jan 10 Day 11: Abel Tasman Track. Wednesday 06 Jan 10 Day 12: Finish Abel Tasman Track, Overnight in Nelson. Thursday 07 Jan 10 Day 13: Off Road Cycling Trek – Nelson Friday 08 Jan 10 Day 14: Fly to Canada.
