Objective The students will understand how to use and read a protractor to measure angles. TEKS (6.8C) The student solves application problems involving angle measurement.
Math Journal Take a few moments to write the question and answer. What is an angle? When are angle measurements important? How many different types of angle are there? List and define them.
What is an angle? An angle is composed of two rays and a vertex.
Protractor A mathematical tool used to measure angles in degrees.
Let’s Measure an Angle Line up the vertex of the angle at the center of the protractor. We will use the inner scale because it is lined up with 0 degrees. The other ray is lined up with 130 degrees. The angle measures 130 degrees.
Measuring an Angle using the inner scale 130 ° 45° Subtract 130° -45° 85°
Measuring an angle using the outer scale 50° 135° Subtract 135° -50° 85°
